{"id":345,"date":"2016-06-26T10:40:59","date_gmt":"2016-06-26T09:40:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gardenadvice.co.uk\/advisor\/gardening-tips\/?p=345"},"modified":"2016-06-26T10:40:59","modified_gmt":"2016-06-26T09:40:59","slug":"yellows-and-golds-for-a-september-planter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gardenadvice.co.uk\/gardening-tips\/yellows-and-golds-for-a-september-planter\/","title":{"rendered":"Yellows And Golds For A September Planter."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have been asked for a mix of&#8217;golden&#8217;plants, suitable for a September planter &#8211; yes &#8211; already!<br \/>\nHere are some ideas, but not a definitive list:<\/p>\n<p>For foliage and bulk there are Euonymus fortunei which has a variegated leaf of emerald green and a deep golden yellow border,Choisya ternata sundance, which planted out,can grow into quite a large bush,but has very attractive greeny-gold leaves and any of the golden-leaved Heucheras,which provide low-growing foliage and add a lovely splash of colour to any planter. <\/p>\n<p>For flowers: Crocosmia &#8216;Honey angels&#8217; is quite a tall lily-like plant with slender sword-like leaves &#8211; a strong grower,with yellow-gold flowers,and which blooms late summer. Other golden and yellow flowers are the daisy-like Coreopsis,Gazania,which goes from light yellow and cream through to a deep red) and Rudbeckia,which flowers through summer and autumn.Useful sprawlers are Lantana, Sanvitalia and if you plant it now, a very pretty trailing nasturtium,(tropaeolum majus) with smallish light yellow flowers.<\/p>\n<p>Add a little contrast to bring out the yellows and golds with a silver-leafed cineraria, or a suitable silvery grass,which could lighten the arrangement, or Athyrium Niponicum metallicum,a lovely Japanese painted fern with variegated silver fronds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have been asked for a mix of&#8217;golden&#8217;plants, suitable for a September planter &#8211; yes &#8211; already!
