Conifers tend to suck the soil dry of organic matter and nutrients leaving dusty unhealthy soil.
\nIf you have removed some conifers and plan to re-plant the area with some shrubs etc it’s a good idea to dig in some bulky organic matter such as well-rotted farm yard manure. In addition, add some lime and add a general garden fertilizer such as Growmore, alternatively, you can add some spent mushroom compost which contains lots of lime.
\nThis is because conifers tend to take a lot out of the ground and once they are removed the soil that is left tends to be quite barren and very acidic and in need of enrichment.
\nIt’s also worth removing the larger roots that have been left behind from the conifers as they will not rot for a period of two to three years removing further nutrients from the soil.
\nTo remove conifer stumps and roots leave a 1-metre stump when you cut down the conifer which can be used to winch or pull out the conifer stump and roots with a small winch.\"\"<\/p>\n
