As a general rule, they need to be planted before Christmas and planted at twice the depth of the bulb.<br>In heavy soil planting with some horticultural dug into the soil under the bulbs is often a good idea.<br>Some gardens have pest problems with newly planted bulbs such as badgers and squirrels.
