These pallets are akin to those utilised by industrial racking suppliers for warehouse storage. One serves as the foundation, with three others secured around the perimeter using tree stakes for stability. As materials are added, wooden strips can be affixed to the front to retain the compost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some valuable insights on composting from the GardenAdvice Team. In our gardening courses, we emphasise the importance of nurturing the bacteria, fungi, and worms within the compost heap to expedite the breakdown of materials into compost. Here are the key composting tips from GardenAdvice:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>During summer, ensure that the compost heap is adequately watered. When you grasp a handful and squeeze it, a few drops of water should be released.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As you incorporate compost into the heap, introduce some fertiliser like Growmore or a compost activator to nourish the bacteria and fungi, aiding in the decomposition of the materials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain warmth in the compost during winter by covering it with an old carpet or a similar insulating material.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your compost heap contains a significant amount of grass clippings, periodically add a layer of straw or a similar substance to promote air circulation within the heap.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you&#8217;re composting a substantial quantity of beech or oak leaves, consider adding garden lime as you incorporate them. This helps adjust the pH level, facilitating the breakdown of these materials by bacteria and fungi.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While many suggest turning the compost heap with a fork for optimal results, following the aforementioned advice should render this step unnecessary\u2014unless, of course, you&#8217;re looking for an excuse to spend less time at your local pub!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In lieu of purchasing a compost bin, we generally advocate utilising four old builder pallets\u2014three for the sides and one for the base.
