The BTO ( British Trust for Ornithology ) report wild bird population stable except for farmland birds which show a decline
\nThe Government wild bird indicators, recently published, are just one way in which data collected by BTO volunteers helps Britain\u2019s birds. Overall, breeding bird populations in the UK have declined slightly compared with 40 years ago and, whilst the decline in woodland birds is slowing, farmland birds continue to struggle. Since peaking in 1999, seabirds have fallen by 17% but populations are still higher than when data collection began in 1970. Populations of wintering waterbirds in the UK peaked during the winter of 2001-02 but have since fallen by 12% – still 94% higher than they were in the winter of 1975-76 though.
