Planting A Wisteria: Notes From The GardenAdvice Team.
Wisteria is one of the plants that proper care when planting can make a massive difference with regards to quality of flowers of flowers over a number of years.
Naturally a wisteria is a plant that grows on a forest floor and climbs up into the crowns of the trees to reach the sunlight. So when planting is a good idea to try to recreate the conditions the wisteria need to thrive which is a deep well drained soil with lots of organic matter naturally created by the leaf litter from the tree on a forest floor.
Digging in lots of organic matter into the soil as you plant the wisteria will also create the slightly acid soil conditions the wisterias seem to thrive in and well as creating the deep well drained soil.
Ideally a wisteria should be planted in a shady spot with the stems growing around onto a sunny wall.
When you wisteria get a hold and starts to grow you will need to create wire framework in the wall to support the stems and flowers.
