Toad homes — easy wildlife allies for slug control

Toad helping to keep slugs under control organically
Invite amphibian neighbours to help eat slugs — cheap, natural and effective.
How to set up
- Shelters: Create hides from upturned clay pots, log piles, stone piles or purpose-made toad boxes in cool, damp, sheltered parts of the garden. Place near compost heaps, borders and water sources. GardenAdvice highlights upturned pots and log piles as excellent toad refuges.
- Pesticide-free zone: Avoid chemicals nearby so toads remain healthy — they eat great numbers of slugs nightly and are a top natural control. For more habitat ideas see GardenAdvice toad guidance.
