Creating a weed free rockery

One of the drawbacks of creating a rockery is that it can be hard to weed. Weeds such as couch grass have established themselves under the rock and grow out from under the rocks

Installing a thin weed sheeting and covering it with gravel or bark mulch is an ideal way to solve this problem

First, create the rockery placing the rocks or stones in the required positions then pick up the rocks or stones one at a time lay the weed sheeting and replace the rock back onto the sheeting.

Once you have finished cover the area with gravel or rocks to cover the weed sheeting
You are best to use the thinner weed sheeting rather than the thicker woven landscape weed sheeting such as the Verve Beds & Borders Landscaping fabric (W)1m (L)10m available from B and Q stores

Planting can be carried out by cutting crosses in the weed sheeting and planting through the weed sheeting
