Leaky pipe irrigation and its installation

With proper soil preparation and mulching your flower borders should only need watering once or twice a year.
The best solution for watering your flower borders is to use leak watering pipes laid on the soil in the border before you apply the mulch. The leaky pipe can be connected at one end with the main garden hose. This saves the cost of installing a full automated irrigation system which in most years is not needed in a flower border.
Leaky pipes should be laid up and down or across the border at 1-metre intervals in a continuous line, one end with a hose coupling and the other sealed with a plug or cap.
The pipes can be held down and in place with some homemade wire hoops.
One tip from the GardenAdvice team when installing leak pipe is to unroll it first and allow it to stand for an hours or two to help remove the kinks in the hose.
Leaky pipe is also useful being installed under a hedge in a straight line to water a hedge
