Notes on black spot on roses

Treating black spot on roses in stages
- Once the leaves have fallen in the autumn prune and spray with Jeyes fluid one capful per gallon or vitax winter wash. Spray with a jet so the liquid runs down the stems killing all the overwintering pest eggs and overwinter black spot spores.
- Remove all the plant material you have pruned and the fallen leaves, do not compost then but place them in the bin so you so not spread the compost
- Mulch around the base ideally with well rotted horse manure but other mulch material will do the purpose is to spot any black spot spores from bouncing back onto the young leaves in the spring with the spring rain.
If you have not already done so feed with Growmore fertilizer or and Toprose
