Good Times Ahead For Woodworm.
It’s a strange thing to write but as GardenAdvice advisors we find ourselves at the sharp end with regards to our viewers and members requests’ for advice on pests. An increase in assistance for pest control has rose over the past few months and we believe the changing weather patterns may have caused this increase.
Whilst we have had a steady flow of requests for assistance on pests such as slugs and aphids, in recent months we have received more requests on how to treat woodworm damage. Treating woodworm damage is now in our top 10 advice requests table, proving how much these ‘pesky’ pests are affecting people’s wooden garden furniture.
Woodworms have always been a nuisance, however recently there has been an increase in woodworm infestation. We think this may be down to the weather, as we have experienced long periods of damp weather followed by periods of hot weather which in turn increases humidity and tends to suit the woodworms’ lifestyle.
So good times ahead for woodworm, well maybe not if you follow our advice and seek professional help. To avoid woodworm damage escalating, the key is to spot the problem early and apply a high-performing woodworm treatment before the woodworms turn your prize shed, summer house, roof or floor into a pile of sawdust. Watch for the tell tail signs of small holes and small amounts of sawdust appearing especially in hardwoods. For small infected areas you can simply apply a Woodworm Killer. If you are unsure as to whether your wooden garden furniture is suffering from a woodworm infestation, you can always send us a few pictures and our GardenAdvice team will identify if it is woodworm damage and advise you on how to deal with the problem.
If you have a new build project underway such as a shed or summerhouse it’s worth spending some time to make sure you have fully protected your wood with a Woodworm Prevention product to guarantee protection from woodworm for a number of years.
