Feeding your plants general advice
Feeding your plants
Feeding with low nitrates and high nitrate feeds – this is the main difference between plant foods. High nitrate feeds creating lots of green stems and leaves and growth in general and plant foods with lower nitrate having more potash producing more flower and fruit growth.
In general we use lower nitrate plant feeds such as liquid tomato feed and Growmore which contains around severn percent nitrogen. Occasionally we use high nitrate feeds such as Miracle-gro which contains more than 20 percent nitrogen to produce lots of new growth where we are trying to get a plant to recover from a heavy pruning or its been starved of nutrients for a long period maybe growing in a pot or container.
To start you need to apply some Growmore fertilizer is a granular fertilizer with approximately one handful per square metre of flower bed and containers. Its a good idea to add some Growmore fertilizer at the same rate under the hedge to help maintain its health.
The only plants tha need feeding at the moment with high nitrate feeds such as Miracle-gro is the bottle brush plant in the contain – this is to help it produce new growth so we can prune it back next year
