Creating a compost heap for free

The quickest and easiest way to create a compost heap is to use some old builders’ pallets.
Ideally one pallet on the base and three pallets around three sides leaving the front open.
As you fill the compost heap you can nail wood on the front to hold in the compost.
To secure the pallets we have found the simplest method is to use tree stakes 50 to 75mm hammered into the ground through the pallets to hold the pallets in place
If you are replacing an old compost heap save some of the old compost to restart the new compost heap. So of the old compost will contain worms and bacteria to get the process started again with the freshly composted material
