Ivy Damage To Walls.
Question
I have ivy growing on my house walls. Will it cause any damage and if so how do I remove it?.
Answer
Common green ivy will cause damage to house walls with its arial root breaking the mortor in the joints and preventing moisture getting to the wall causing it to crumble. To remove it you should cut the stems off near to the roots/base,kill the roots with a product called Stump Killer from the growing range of products, then once the top has turned brown pull it off the wall.Do not do this before it is brown or you will damage the wall by pulling the pointing out.
