Late Spring For Pruned Shrubs.
Most shrubs that are pruned hard back in the winter months will take longer than normal in the spring to show signs of the buds bursting into life, especially if you have cut them back into the bare stems and are waiting for the dormant buds to shoot. So do not be in to much of a hurry to remove plants you think might have died over the winter as a result of the cold conditions or the weather. Its best to leave them until mid May. If you wish to test a plant to see if its still alive lightly scratch one of the stems to see if it is still green and alive just under the bark or outer stem.
