What can I use for the control of pear tree midge? I have tried cultivation below the tree and covering the ground with carpet, but this does not seem to work. href=”http://gardenadvice.co.uk/advisor/freeadvice/index.html”>Answer
Pear tree Midge can be controlled by tar washing the tree in December with murphy tar wash available from most garden centres. After you have applied the tar wash, water the ground under and around the tree with a very diluted mixture of Jeyes fluid. Finally,in the spring you could sow a few tagetes or pot marigold seeds under the tree this will help keep the midge at bay. .
