Water Lilies.

Water lilies have leaves that are designed to sit on the surface of the water.As the level of the water changes,they move up and down by means of a telescopic system in the leaf stem.So if it rains and the level of the water goes up and they can extend the stems which repositions the leaf, to sit on the water’s surface.When they are grown to near to water falls, the waterfall creates ripples on the surface of the water constantly triggering this telescopic system.So if you have a waterfall,or indeed a fountain,it is best to position the lily in an area of the pond that does not ripple,so leaving the lily leaves to sit in calm water.
