Applying Wood Ash To Your Vegetable Patch.
Applying wood ash to your veg patch now is an ideal time to do it before you begin planting up proper.Wood ash is the equivalent of liming the soil so would be good for any areas that are going to have brassicas. It also contains potash so is good for fruiting. If however you live in a very limey area with a soil with a high PH value then you should not apply it as too much lime can promote iron deficiency in the soil. Most Garden Centres sell soil testing kits to check this, when checking use de-ionised water to make the solution otherwise you are just checking the PH of the water!
