There is no reason why you should not grow soft fruits such as gooseberry plants in containers. However the container should be as large as possible,the old half barrel containers are ideal. The other key factor is to use a soil based compost such as a John Innes number 3 compost,this is because it easier to maintain the correct moisture levels in the compost. You will fing in a peat based compost the dries out to quckly and needs to be soaked to get it to take up new moisture and ths can cause the soft fruits to split especially in the early season.
