Pyracantha Best Time To Prune.
The best way to prune your pyracantha is to prune it lightly after flowering and again tidy it up in the autumn.Pyracantha blooms on the previous year’s growth. The flowers are pretty but the berries really steal the show. The more flowers that you have the greater the number of berries so really it does not want to be pruned too radically other wise you will lose too much of the flower bearing wood.If however your pyracantha needs hard shaping or renewal pruning,it can take hard cuts as long as it is cut back to a leaf or intersecting branch.Do not leave woody stubs without foliage.Prune in spring, but hard pruning will affect the number of berries for a year.Shade also reduces the flowers and consequent berries.
