Worm Casts On Lawn.
Earthworm activity is the sign of a fertile soil and they are normally most active during the spring and Autumn.Ways of reducing their activity is to make sure that you always pick up all the mowings and do not leave them lying on the soil.Leaving them lying on the soil builds up the organic matter which is what they like. Also they hate acidity, so adding Lawn Sand which contains sulphate of ammonia will also discourage them. This can be applied in the spring as it also acts as a lawn feed.Otherwise the casts can be swept up and put on the flower beds. With the wet weather we have been having this year,it would be good to use the spiker again so as to improve drainage and let some air get to the grass roots so as to improve root growth.
