• The key to any drainage scheme is to figure out where you can drain the water too, often you can tap into a surface water drain linked to one of your properties drain pipes through a silt trap.Sometimes a soakaway is used but unless your garden drains naturally then a soakaway will not work.
• It sound simple but using a proper trenching spade that’s narrower than a normal spade about 120mm wide will save you loads of work and hundreds of pounds in clean stone used for back-filling the drainage trenches.
• Ideally you will improve your soil to make it a more open texture for example by adding sharp sand and organic matter.Open people spend a lot of time and money developing a good drainage scheme and then simply cap it off with soil that the ground water cannot travel through to reach the drains.
