Umbrella Plant – Schefflera Arboricola – Scale Insect.
Question
I have a large(6ft tall)umbrella plant – Schefflera arboricola which I have had for more years than I can recall. It developed a lot of white deposits,a bit like cotton wool, which are about a quarter the size of a tomato pip – it is also dropping sticky stuff on to the floor.
Answer
With regard to your question on your Schefflera arboricola,it sounds like woolly aphid or scale insect. You need to spray it with Provado Ultimate Bug Killer Spray 400ml available from most garden centres. This is a systemic insect killer and will kill the scale insect or woolly aphid as they suck on the sap.
