Bird Attacks On My Cherry Trees.
I have two Cherry trees, and every year, before I can get a chance to pick the cherries, the birds get them all!Do you have a suggestion as to how I can protect the fruit from the birds without harming the birds?
Yes, there are several ways you can protect your cherry trees from birds without harming them. Here are a few suggestions:
- Netting: Cover your cherry trees with bird netting, which can be purchased at most garden centers. Make sure the netting is tightly secured around the trunk of the tree and doesn’t have any gaps where birds can enter. This method is very effective at keeping birds away from the fruit.
- Scare tactics: Hang reflective objects like CDs, wind chimes, or old pie plates from the branches of your cherry trees. You can also place fake owls or snakes near the trees to scare away the birds. These methods may not be as effective as netting, but they can still help deter birds.
- Repellents: There are many types of bird repellents available, including sprays, gels, and granules. These products use natural or chemical ingredients to make the fruit taste or smell unappealing to birds. Be sure to choose a product that is safe for your cherry trees and the surrounding environment.
- Harvest early: If you’re able to, try to harvest your cherries before the birds have a chance to get to them. This may mean picking the fruit before it’s fully ripe, but it’s better than losing all of your cherries to birds.
Remember, it’s important to choose a method that is safe for both your cherry trees and the birds. Good luck!
