Learn how to care for an indoor lemon tree

Indoor lemon and orange trees can be quite challenging to grow in the UK indoors, especially with the low light levels and cold temperatures in the winter months.

The keys to growing indoor lemon and orange trees are as follows

  • they require a slightly acid soil so always water with rainwater
  • they prefer a soil-based compost such as John Innes number 2
  • alternate feeding with citrus feed and liquid tomato feed to supply the correct nutrients
  • grow in clay pots to maintain the humidity indoors around the plant
  • in the summer months, a spell outside once the risk of frost has passed will help rejuvenate the plants
  • Treat for red spider mite and scale insect
