Garden Decking A Very English Summer Gardening Project.

Garden Decking a very English Summer gardening project

Garden Decking – For a lot of gardeners garden decking is a simple project that can be completed over a couple of weekends in the summer. It’s easy to create a simple decking over an old existing patio or in a new garden on a level area.
The key in creating a garden decking is in the planning and the time invested in creating a solid base or frame .Ideally the base or frame should be raised off the ground with bricks or concrete blocks either as pillars or single blocks or bricks. The actual frame should be made from 4 x 2 or 100 X 50 treated timber of a construction grade, the reason for this is that this timber it often available in long lengths and is true and not bent, which helps in the construction of the frame.
With regards to the decking itself you can use softwood or hardwood but over the years we have learnt that the investment in hardwood decking always pays off after a few years as the softwood always seems to become very slippery with algae build up on the surface that become lethal with the addition of a small amount of moisture. You can treat a slippy decking with pressure washing once or twice a year but this some becomes a bit of a chore.
Hardwood decking comes in a number of forms including Ipe hardwood and cedar which is not strictly speaking a hardwood but because of its properties normally classed as one.
