How To Plant A Bank.
To planting a garden bank for low maintenance. Many gardens have areas of banks and although they can be turfed you still have the problem of mowing them. The best solution is to plant the plants up with ground cover plant. To do this cultivate the bank and cover in weed sheeting to stop any weeds establishing themselves on the bank. The weed sheeting will need to be pegged down with a peg every metre or so.You can then cut small crosses in the weed sheeting large enough to peel back and plant the plants through into the bank. They are a number of plants suitable for this situation but one of the best is Cotoneaster microphyllus planted in 0.25 litre pots 3 plants to the square metre.Other suitable plants are Hypericum ‘Hidcote’ and Lonicera pileata both evergreen.
Ground cover roses are often recommended for use on a bank however they do not form a very coverage.
