When To Water Pots – Garden Plants.

Watering this is always a tricky one.Are your plants in a peat based or soil based compost. If in a soil based compost they will need less watered less frequently. If however, your plants are in a peat based compost then high summer they might even need to be watered daily. The general rule of thumb if in pots stick your finger in to a depth of say 2 inches and feel if the compost is still moist – if it is don’t water if not water. When you water water well a good watering can per pot not just a pint.Plants that loose their leaves will not need watering at this time of year as they are not loosing water through their leaves whereas evergreens might. If plants are in containers be aware of rain shadows as if a plant pot is tucked up against a house it is unlikely to get rained on.
