Notes on creating a flower border design, follow these steps:
- Determine the size and location of your flower border. You’ll want to consider the size of the area you have available, as well as the amount of sunlight it receives and the soil conditions.
- Choose the types of flowers you want to use in your border. Consider the colours, sizes, and bloom times of the flowers to create a cohesive and balanced design. For example, a late flowering border using perirenal plants
- Sketch out a rough design on paper. This will help you visualize the placement and spacing of the flowers on your border.
- Start by figuring out the structural plants you need to use for example for screening or to add height to the border in various sections of the border.
- Next workout or select any infill shrubs you need to use to add structure and interest in the winter for example plants such as pittosporum green thumb
- Finally, add perirenal plants and bulbs to start to add flowering interest in the seasons you wish to create the colour.
Remember to be mindful of the maintenance needs of your flower border, as different plants have different watering, fertilizing, and pruning requirements. By planning and caring for your flower border properly, you can create a beautiful and thriving garden feature.
