Bay Tree Winter Damage.

Bay trees although fully hardy are often damaged by winter winds and frosts which burn the leaves. This can be avoided by placing a horticultural fleece over the bay plants on the coldest days and nights. If your plants have been damaged they should recover in the spring/summer and to aid the recover you should feed them with a high nitrogen plant food such as Miracle-Gro and remove any very badly damaged leaves.

Feed with a the high nitrogen plant food once every two weeks until the end of June and then switch to a high potash feed such as liquid tomato feed once every three weeks until the end of September.

Then next winter if it looks although its going to be very cold then use a horticultural fleece to protect the plant after Christmas when we encounter the hardest frost and winter winds.
