Our GardenAdvice one-day gardening course is designed to give you the skills, confidence and a tailored plan to make real progress. New and returning gardeners who want a confident start — using your own garden as the classroom. Whether you are tackling a blank canvas, a tired border or want to grow your own food, the course is customised around you.
What you’ll learn
- Growing your own fruit & veg: sowing seeds, planting young plants, extending the season.
- Core skills: digging, pruning, planting, grass cutting, lawn care.
- Simple maintenance: weed-control methods and time-saving routines.
- Focus areas of your choice — wildflower meadows, Beth Chatto-style gravel borders, wildlife planting, or lawn renovation. , plus plant care focusing on feeding and pruning.
- Tailored courses – All the GardenAdvice courses are tailored to meet the needs of each garden and the ambisions of the gardener undertaing the course
How the day runs
The course normally starts around 9:30am (but can be flexible). We begin with a walk-through of your garden to assess soil, light and priorities. Practical modules follow, chosen to match your goals. At the end of the day, you’ll leave with a clear 12-month action plan.

- Wildflower meadow basics: soil prep, timing, species choice and first-year care.
- Gravel garden (Beth Chatto style): drought-tolerant plant palette and layout ideas.
- Lawn improvement: safe weed-control timing, overseeding, micro-clover for resilience.
- Child-friendly water feature: hidden-reservoir “bubbling” feature — safe and low-maintenance.

Booking & availability
We can usually arrange dates within a fewdays or weeks and months if you wish to plan ahead, weekdays or weekends or available. Courses run from about 9:30am, or later if that suits you better.
