Description
General Notes:
A standout among hostas, ‘Paul’s Glory’ is renowned for its striking variegation and sun-resilient foliage. It holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for outstanding performance and reliability. Though hostas are generally shade-loving, this cultivar can handle some morning sun, which enhances the golden colouring without burning the leaves.
Soil Type:
Thrives in rich, moist, well-drained soil. Improve soil with compost or leaf mould before planting. Will tolerate a range of soil types, but avoid dry or chalky conditions.
Location:
Ideal for partial to full shade. Excellent under deciduous trees, in north-facing borders, or beside water features. Performs beautifully in large pots for shaded patios or entrances.
Pests and Disease Problems:
Can be susceptible to slug and snail damage, particularly in spring. Use organic slug pellets, copper tape, or protective collars. Occasionally affected by crown rot in very wet conditions—ensure good drainage.
Propagation:
Easily propagated by division in early spring or autumn. Allow plants to establish for 3–4 years before dividing for best results.
Pruning, Cutting Back & Dividing:
Remove spent flower spikes after blooming. In autumn, cut back dead or yellowing foliage to ground level. Divide large clumps every few years to rejuvenate and increase stock.
