Moving to a new house and garden

If you have just moved into your dream home once the packing boxes are stowed away and the house is set up, it’s time to have a think about your garden.
Congratulations on your move! Here are some tips to help you settle into your new home and garden:
- Unpack and organize your belongings as soon as possible.
- Get to know your new neighbourhood.
- Familiarize yourself with the layout and systems in your new house.
- Make any necessary repairs or updates to your new home.
Taking on a new garden can be an exciting but also a daunting task. Here are some steps you can follow to get started:
- Assess the existing conditions: Observe the light levels, soil type, and existing plants in the garden.
- Create a plan: Decide on the style, layout and purpose of your garden. Sketch out a rough plan and take note of the measurements.
- Consider climate and water needs: Choose plants that are suitable for your local climate and have adequate water supply.
- Clean up: Remove any dead or overgrown plants, weeds, and debris.
- Prepare the soil: Add compost, organic matter, and other necessary amendments to improve soil health.
- Planting: Start with the largest plants and arrange smaller ones around them. Make sure to space them out adequately to allow for growth.
- Mulch: Apply a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around plants to conserve moisture, reduce weeds, and regulate soil temperature.
- Watering: Establish a consistent watering schedule for your plants and be mindful of over or under watering.
- Maintenance: Regularly remove dead or yellowing leaves, prune, and fertilize your plants as needed.
- Enjoy: Watch your garden grow and enjoy the beauty and peace it brings to your home.
