Creating a winter hanging basket with violas

Starting with a standard hanging basket place a hanging basket liner into the hanging basket frame. Coco liner are the best ones to use as they are easy to work with and look natural, its best to soak then first which makes them easier to cut and shape.

Adding compost to the base inside the hanging basket start to cut slots into the liner push through a viola plug, as you add each layer add some more compost and move onto the next layer of viola. It helps to stand the hanging basket in a pot or bucket for ease of access to the sides.

Once full add some spring bulbs such as some dwarf daffodils, dwarf tulips or Iris reticulata

Ideally you need to keep in an unheated glasshouse until the plants have settled in and started to root into the new compost in the hanging basket.
