Pleached hedging from drive

Some sample advice provided to a GardenAdvice MyGardenTeam member
With your request for pleached hedging on the front drive you could buy large or instant plants but the cost would be massive because of the number of plants required. For example one every 3 to 4 metres apart
However using younger plants with the correct soil preparation and protection from the deer these younger plants will grow quickly at a fraction of the cost per plant.
With regards to soil preparation you start by digging a pit a metre square and half a metre deep. Remove the soil place to one side and then fork over the bottom of the pit.
Next add some 50mm land drainage pipe around the base of the pit leading out to the surface level for watering and feeding.
Back fill the soil into the pit mixing some compost, Growmore fertiliser and some bone meal fertiliser about a handful of each Then you are ready to plant the trees
The trees need planting in the winter up until the end of March
With protection from deer and rabbits guards
Possible tree and plants to use
Lime trees
Hornbeam trees
Beech trees
Cotoneaster cornubia
Acer campestre
The cost of the larger limes in the picture above is around £355 each
