Feed your spring bulbs

As your garden bulbs such as crocus and daffodils come into flower it’s important to feed them with some high potash feed such as Growmore fertilizer or liquid tomato feed to ensure they create high-quality flowers for next season.
Feeding spring bulbs properly is essential to ensure that they grow and bloom to their full potential. Here are some general guidelines to follow:
- Timing: Feed spring bulbs when they start actively growing in spring, typically after the flowers have bloomed.
- Fertilizer: Use a high-phosphorus fertilizer, such as a 5-10-5 or 10-20-10 blend. Phosphorus helps promote strong root development and flowering.
- Application: Sprinkle the fertilizer evenly over the soil surface around the base of the bulbs. Follow the instructions on the package for the amount to apply.
- Watering: After applying the fertilizer, water the bulbs thoroughly. This helps dissolve the fertilizer and deliver it to the roots.
- Avoid foliage: Try not to get the fertilizer on the foliage, as this can cause burning.
- Frequency: You can feed spring bulbs once a year, either in the fall before planting or in the spring when they begin to grow.
- Organic alternatives: Alternatively, you can use organic fertilizers, such as bone meal, blood meal, or fish emulsion, which are also rich in phosphorus and other nutrients.
Remember, feeding spring bulbs is just one part of their overall care. Make sure to plant them in well-draining soil, water them regularly but not excessively, and provide them with adequate sunlight.
