General Notes:
Agapanthus ‘Blue Dot’ is a long-blooming perennial that offers striking colour and form with minimal fuss. It’s perfect for adding vertical interest to planting schemes and thrives in sun-drenched, well-drained conditions. The compact habit makes it particularly well suited to patio pots and smaller gardens.
Soil Type:
Prefers light, well-drained soil with moderate fertility. Avoid waterlogged or heavy clay soils. In containers, use a peat-free compost mixed with coarse sand or grit.
Location:
Best grown in full sun. Ideal for south-facing borders, raised beds, gravel gardens, or large containers. Performs particularly well in coastal or Mediterranean-style gardens.
Pests and Disease Problems:
Generally low-maintenance. May attract slugs to young foliage or aphids to flower buds. Occasionally susceptible to root rot if soil remains wet in winter.
Propagation:
Can be propagated by division every 3–5 years once the clump is well established. Alternatively, grow from seed, though cultivars may not come true.
Pruning, Cutting Back & Dividing:
Remove faded flower stems to prolong blooming and maintain appearance. In autumn, tidy away old foliage once it has fully yellowed. Divide clumps in early spring or after flowering.
