GardenAdvice Plant Sharing and Swapping Schemes
At GardenAdvice, we are always looking for ways to enrich your garden with new and unique plants, as well as reliable garden staples— free of charge where ever possible. To support you in creating a beautiful and diverse garden, we offer a range of initiatives that provide rooted cuttings, seedlings, and fully grown plants. Here’s a look at some of our popular schemes:
Roots, Shoots, and Share Scheme
Our Roots, Shoots, and Share Scheme is designed to help you grow a variety of plants from cuttings. We provide rooted cuttings of shrubs, perennials, and other garden plants free of charge, which you can pot into 75-100 mm pots using John Innes No. 1 compost. Once they’ve grown on, these plants are ready to be planted directly in your garden.

MyGardenTeam Plant Swap
As part of our MyGardenTeam service, we offer a Plant Swap scheme, perfect for gardeners who want to diversify their plant collection. New members who join MyGardenTeam—either by completing one of our gardening courses or directly—can claim up to 12 plants without needing to swap any of their own. After this they can simply swap plants they are dividing or are surplus to requirements. This is a fantastic way to kick-start or expand your garden without the need to exchange plants right away.
The Plant Swap primarily operates during the autumn and winter months, from September to March. It features a variety of plants, including perennials and hardwood cuttings. For those who may have difficulty with transportation, GardenAdvice offers a collection and delivery service.
At the end of September, we release a list of plants available through the swap. Some of the plants looking good this year include Acanthus mollis and Crocosmia lucifer.
Young Gardeners Tree Scheme
If you’re interested in planting trees, our Young Gardeners Tree Planting Scheme might be just what you’re looking for. This initiative provides access to seedling trees, mostly native species, with a few exotic varieties for those with more space. The trees are organised and planted with the help of the Young Gardeners Club, giving young people an opportunity to get involved with nature.
